Conservation

Hidden Valley Farm works in co-operation with the state and federal governments in several programs that further environmental conservation and sustainable farming.

Forest Management: In compliance with the Connecticut Department of Agriculture, Public Act 490, the stated intention of which is to “encourage the preservation of farm, forest, and open space land,” HVF is committed to preserve and manage its extensive woodlands and has worked with the Forestry Department of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection to create an approved multi-year plan for sustainable forest management.

EQIP ( the Environmental Quality Incentives Program of the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Services): HVF works with the EQIP to remove or control invasive species in the forest, to protect soil by a strict rotational grazing program, and to protect wetlands with appropriate fencing, water and waste management.
